Salt: Amikacin
Therapeutic Description: Aminoglycosides
Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy.
Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended.
Contraindications: Myasthenia gravis.
Precautions: Ensure adequate hydration. Renal impairment.
Serious infections due to amikacin sensitive gram negative organisms. Known or suspected staphylococcal disease.
Adults: 15 mg/kg IM or IV daily in two divided doses for up to 10 days; total max 15 gm. Children: Neonates, initially 10 mg/kg then 15 mg/kg daily in two divided doses; others same as adult. Bone & Joint Infections: IM/IV: Adults, Children & Older Infants: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours or 5 mg/kg IM/IV every 8 hours. Max: 1.5 gm/day. Newborns: Loading Dose: 10 mg/kg. Maintenance: 7.5 mg/kg every 12 hours.

IM: Administer IM injection in large mass. Do not mix with other drugs, administer separately. IV: The quantity of infusion solution should be sufficient to infuse amikacin over 1 to 2 hours in infants, and 30-60 min children and adults; at a final concentration not to exceed 5 mg amikacin/ mL. Stable for 24 hours at room temperature and 2 days at refrigeration when mixed in D5W, D5¼ NS, D5½ NS, NS, LR.
Furosemide, ethacrynic acid, anaesthetics, neuromuscular blocking drugs.
Ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity.
