Salt: Ceftazidime
Therapeutic Description: Cephalosporins
Pregnancy: No evidence of risk in humans.
Lactation: Contraindicated or not recommended.
Precautions: Penicillin sensitivity. Impaired renal function.
Infections of the respiratory tract, ENT, skin and soft tissues, bone and joints, biliary and Gl tract. UTI. Septicaemia, meningitis. Infections in immunocompromised patients.
Adults: 1-6 gm/day in 2 or 3 divided doses by IV or IM inj. Children: Above 2 months, 30-100 mg/kg/day in 2 or 3 divided doses; under 2 months, 25-60 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses.
Bone Infection: IV: Adults: 2 gm every 12 hours. Children: <
IM: Inject deep IM into large mass muscle. IV: Ceftazidime can be administered IVP over 3-5 min or IV intermittent infusion over 15-30 min; final concentration for IV administration should not exceed 100 mg/ mL.
Aminoglycosides, loop diuretics.
Pain at inj site, hypersensitivity reactions. Gl disturbances, candidiasis, eosinophilia, neutropenia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, rise in liver enzymes and blood urea. Positive Coomb's test.
